“We require regeneration, not rebirth, and the possibilities for our reconstitution include the utopian dream of the hope for a monstrous world without gender.”  ----- Donna Haraway

REGENERATION

Year: 2022
Location: London

London Design Festival,
‘Permanent Temporary’

Regeneration is based on the theory of Xenofeminism, which focus on the productive use of technology and seeking reproductive justice and gender equality.

As 90s Chinese women, we are the “products” of the one-child policy, and now we are still facing the risk of being “birth-giving machines” under the three-child policy. Unequal access to assisted reproductive technology also limits women’s reproductive freedom.

It is a memoir of Chinese women, a collection of various voices, a guidebook for women who were lost in the reproductive maze and a letter to healing individuals and exploring a better future together.

As Federici(2004) wrote, productive and reproductive tasks and the relations between males and females were redefined by the maximum violence and state intervention during "the transition to capitalism".

Similar to the productive and reproductive tasks during "the transition to capitalism" in the West, the one-child policy is also a form of government intervention.

Women, whether living in a capitalist or communist society, have their bodies and reproductive rights being interfered.

Workshop

Date: 18 Oct 2022
Location: LGBTQ+ Community Centre,

            London

LGBTQ+ groups are often ignored by society when it comes to reproduction issues.

Different from traditional women, interacting with them could offer new aspects, especially in relation to advanced reproductive technology.

This workshop provided Chinese women with different views on reproduction and encouraged them to share their experiences about giving birth and perspectives on contraception and reproduction.
