An open collaborative space for graphic designers to develop more culturally appropriate practices by exploring cultural aesthetics through co-creation with the audience.

Problem

Ineffective communication with audiences and misunderstanding of their culture leads to a lot of invalid designs. Graphic designers must consider audiences' cultural aesthetics behind visual communication and collaboration but they lack

the accessible platforms to do that. This also shows that audiences lack the opportunity to change from being passive recipients to active co-creators.

Process

After testing open collaboration platforms, I found that most platforms focus on collaboration between designers rather than between designer and audience. In addition, the cultures behind audiences' visual languages are always ignored.

I set a simple rule to collect messages from audiences with different cultural backgrounds and applied them to the prototype to test with designers in order to achieve accessible cultural visual communication and collaboration.

Proposal

A website, which produces poster design with cultural aesthetics, encourages graphic designers to understand the audiences' visual cultures and integrate different cultural aesthetics.

This open platform allows everyone to act as both the audience and designer to achieve appropriate visual communication by visualising their ideas and co-creating a series of unfinished cross-cultural posters.
