Take, make, dispose

buy, use, trash

we are heading towards destruction

in a one-direction linear path

Review, reflect, rethink

practice, test, evaluate

we are exploring better ways

to blend the line into a circle

Borrow, share, exchange

reuse, repair, recycle

we are closing the loop

for a circular future

‘We are Radicles?’

CIRCULARist focuses on developing visual approaches to explore the relationship between circular design and consumer behaviours.

The project developed a playful and engaging visual language to create an interactive space that introduces circularity to ‘consumers’ and produces qualitative and quantitative research for the practice.

There is a one-way journey from the circular manifesto, circular design, product lifecycle, and circular choices to circular behaviour. The space is open to the public and allows visitors to understand circularity, share their perspectives and identify their circular behaviours.

Visual Language

CIRCULARist used the circle as a visual element, which responds to circular design and the product lifecycle, to design a holistic environment that combines research, data collection and data visualisation within a physical space.

Instead of a text guide, the project uses colour codes to engage 'consumers' in different parts of the product lifecycle to reflect on their behaviours. According to the colour code, visitors use sticky pads to share their perspectives in the corresponding colour area.

Research
Methods

CIRCULARist applies the qualitative research method to learn about the understanding of circularity from the public and collect their perspectives on three product lifecycle stages - consumption, use and end-of-use.

Quantitative research method was used to collect the data and statistically analyse 10R circular behaviour, which developed from 10R circular strategies, and look at which behaviours are already being promoted and which ones need to be nudged further.

Interactive Installation
& Data Visualisation

CIRCULARist developed 10R Circular Behaviour from 10R Circular Strategies to identify the circular behaviours we aim to motivate.

The interactive installation with a circular behaviour glossary can help consumers identify their circular behaviours and connect them to circularity by reflecting on their behaviours.
